An ecologist from New Zealand has been dubbed: “The Lord of The Ring” but he is no hobbit created in a fictive dream. Read all about the man who found his wedding ring more than a year after it slipped off his finger and sank to the sea floor.
According to
news sources, ecologist, Aleki Taumoepeau, had been married for just three months when he lost his wedding ring while conducting an environmental sweep of Wellington harbor, the country’s capitol city. The ring was lost sixteen months ago and despite roughly marking the spot where the ring had flown off his finger and returning to the area many times, he was unable to find it. His wife offered to buy him another, but he refused, pledging to find the ring.
Last week his persistence paid off. Equipped with new global satellite based coordinates and offering up a quick prayer, he found the ring after an hour's search. He told the press:
“The whole top surface of the ring was glowing. I couldn't believe that I could see the ring so perfectly.”
In an odd example of life imitating art, those present with him on the boat when the ring flew off his finger thought it resembled a similar slow motion shot from the movie,
Lord of the Rings, based on Tolkien’s brilliant epic. Much of the film was made in Wellington by Peter Jackson, a local director.
Whatever be the case, it’s nice to know that the course of true love at least sometimes smooth.
