According to intelligence officials, a well-known Taliban spokesperson has been arrested on Tuesday. The spokesperson has been in the media recently for contradicting US officials declaration that Baitullah Mehsud is dead.
On Tuesday, intelligence officials have confirmed that Taliban spokesman Maulvi Umar was arrested, according to CNN.
Umar was arrested on Monday in Mohmand Agency, which is one of seven semi-autonomous tribal agencies. The agency is along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.
Officials have stated that the regional border is filled with Islamic extremists and have been launching attacks against Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Umar was in the media spotlight for a while after United States officials belief that Pakistani Taliban chief Baitullah Mehsud was killed by US drones. Umar told media outlets throughout the globe that Mehsud was not dead and that the west's contention that he was dead was false.
