article imageLos Angeles Man Tosses Cash onto Freeway

By Kevin Jess     Aug 17, 2009 in Crime
California authorities say a man caused a traffic jam when he threw money onto a Los Angeles-area freeway. People dashed across the lanes to grab the cash, putting themselves in danger.
About 10 people ran into traffic lanes to pick up money being tossed from a car on Interstate 210 in the Los Angeles suburb of Glendora shortly before noon Sunday reports the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.
Police made a public plea afterward for those people to return the money, but it appears he may not get much of his money back. According to Azusa Police Sgt. Jerry Arnold, by Monday afternoon none had done so.
Highway patrol officers recovered about $1,000.
The man showed up at the Azusa Police Department and later told police of his intent to kill himself. He has now been hospitalized for a mental evaluation.
He had withdrawn the money from his and his wife's savings account.
