In Nigeria, polio the alarming dreadful disease that paralyzes its unlucky victim is spreading fast and health administrators are now vigorously working in solving the possible outbreak.
Officials also claimed that the polio surge is caused by the polio vaccine itself. Currently, the oral polio vaccine used in poorer countries such as Nigeria and other parts of Africa is made from a live polio virus -- suggesting risk of polio itself.
In some instances the vaccine also mutates and ignites a deadlier strain.
The World Health Organization also confirmed the report sand issued guidelines against vaccine-spread virus. Health authorities also disclosed that the new polio virus could cross borders and spread beyond the African region.
So far, 124 Nigerian children have been paralyzed this year due to polio -- about twice as many cases in 2008. Hence, the number is expected to increase significantly considering that there are still four months remaining in 2009.
Aside from Nigeria, poorer countries such as Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Chad, Angola and Sudan also suffers from the polio outburst.
