article imageDonaire survives Concepcion, captures WBA interim belt

Filipino Flash Nonito Donaire captured the vacant WBA Interim super-flyweight crown just moments ago in a hotly-disputed battle in the heart of Las Vegas against Panama's tough journeyman and former world champion Rafael Concepcion.
Donaire, the former IBF and IBO flyweight kingpin start off strong but the Panamanian valiantly fought the full 12 rounds of their much anticipated showdown.
Fightfan.com reports, “He was a super bantamweight tonight. Had he weighed in at 115 pounds I would have knocked him out!” said a furious Donaire after the bout.
Concepcion tipped the scales at 119.5 lbs, four and a half above the super-flyweight limit.
Donaire looked sluggish and sloppy at times but boxed swiftly, gracefully weaving in and out of trouble during the course of the fight.
On the other hand Concepcion, who was tagged on numerous occasions throughout the bout, again exhibited his trademark lionhearted fighting style but as we all knew heart alone cannot win a boxing match.
The judges scorecards read 117-111, 115-113 and 116-112 all in favor of Donaire who wins his 3rd world title in a second weight division.
