A female elephant from Thailand who had loss her leg 10 years ago, endured painful surgery and was given an artificial leg, Saturday.
Motola, the 48-year-old pachyderm loss her leg when she stepped on a landmine in 1999 while on a logging camp near the hostile Myanmar-Thailand borders. Her injury sparked international sympathy from various animal welfare groups.
As a matter of fact Motola have been cared for at the Friends of the Asian Elephant hospital, the world's first elephant treatment facility which has treated thousands of elephants mostly due to landmine injuries, gunshot wounds and eye infections.
Prostheses Foundation constructed the artificial leg of the amputated elephant and is a proud advocate of elephant well-being.
