Gregoire Ndahimana, who is a suspect in the Rwandan genocide, has been arrested in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
AllAfrica.com is reporting Ndahimana is to face charges of genocide and crimes against humanity.
International Criminal for Rwanda (ICTR) Deputy Prosecutor, Bongani Majola, says efforts are underway to transport the accused to Arusha where the court is located.
Ndahimana was Mayor of Kivumo, Kibuye, western Rwanda, during the 1994 genocide which claimed lives of about 800,000 ethnic Tutsis and moderate Hutus.
The genocide erupted after the death of the Rwandan President Juvenal Habyarimana, a Hutu. The President's plane was shot down above Kigali airport on 6 April 1994.
