article imageBlast at NATO gates kill at least three people in Kabul

By KJ Mullins     Aug 15, 2009 in World
An explosion near the main gate of NATO headquarters in Kabul has killed three people and wounded 70, including women and children. Two of the wounded are United States military personnel.
Afghanistan is scheduled to have presidential and provincial elections within the week. The authorities are on high alert because the Taliban has told the citizens not to vote.
The Associated Press says that the blast is a result of a car bomb. Several vehicles at the site were destroyed.
Smoke could be seen by reporters according to the LA Times coming from the compound. Reporters have been denied access at checkpoints to investigate the blast.
