Northern Territory, Australia- A crocodile measuring five and a half metres was harpooned near Borroloola in Australia’s Northern Territory.
The animal had been causing terror in the area prior to being harpooned.
The croc had been threatening locals as well as tourists in the vicinity of a favourite fishing spot. Rangers had made attempts to trap the giant beast but these failed after which they had to harpoon the animal.
The huge crocodile was missing one leg. The creature caused a stir in Borroloola, a small town to the south east of Darwin. The story was reported by The Northern Territory News.
Tegan Sauer, 22, a local shop owner, stated that it was the largest croc she’d seen for a long time. “He was pretty huge – he was curled around the trailer”, Sauer said.
She went on: “And that was a car trailer – not just a standard box trailer.”
According to reports, the saltie had been lurking around the boat ramp. The rangers had set a trap but the croc wouldn’t enter it. As the animal was too big the rangers had no option but to harpoon it.
