Sarah Palin appears to be softening her rhetoric after calling the Democratic healthcare plan "evil" and said that it created "death panels" that would practice euthanasia.
In a Facebook message, the former Alaska governor
called for a reduction in the amount of criticism of President Obama's healthcare plan and urged people not to intimidate or be violent. The town hall meetings which have been the sites of protests and screaming matches in the past few weeks, has become the outlet that opponents of the healthcare plan are using to be heard.
Other Republican leaders such as House Leader John Boehner and Senate Leader Mitch McConnell have defended those who are protesting at these meetings and said that they have every right to be angry with the government. It is unclear whether Palin's message will have any effect on her supporters who are said to be among the people attending the town hall meetings.
The former GOP vice presidential nominee faced severe
criticism from many groups, Republican and Democrat alike for her comments. Former Democratic National Committee Chair Howard Dean said "she made that up," referring to her previous claims regarding euthanasia.
