A 7.6 magnitude earthquake has struck off of the coast of India near the Andaman Islands. This resulted in a tsunami warning being issued for Southeast Asia.
The United States Geological Service says that the
quake was roughly 20.6 miles deep and the epicenter was 150 miles north of Port Blair in the Andaman Islands. Due to the strong nature of the quake, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami watch for the countries of India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Indonesia, Bangladesh, and Thailand.
According to the U.S.G.S., the earthquake hit at 1:55 am local time and that no immediate reports of damage were reported yet. It would take a tsunami no more than 3 hours to strike the six countries included in the warning issued. This quake happened just 12 minutes before a 6.4 magnitude quake hit Japan. The Japanese Meteorological Agency said any waves generated from that quake would be no higher than 2 feet.
