The Aerosmith lead vocalist was hospitalized Wednesday evening after falling backward off stage catwalk. The group was performing an outdoor concert at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota.
The incident occurred after the sound system failed as the
band played "Love In An Elevator." According to
Matt Becker, a North Dakota native who Twittered the following about his attendance at the concert:
The sound completely gave out during Love in an Elevator and Steven fell when trying to dance for the crowd to keep everyone entertained.
Concert-goer Lance Yellow Robe was quoted in the
Rapid City Journal as saying,
You could kind of see it coming because he was dancing all over the stage.
According to the
Bismark Tribune, Mike Sanborn, spokesman for the campground where the concert was held, stated that,
Tyler was on the stage's catwalk when he fell backward onto a couple of fans in the middle of what was a record crowd. Security rushed to help him and the crowd cheered when Tyler got back up. He was good natured about it. He was in good spirits when he got in the helicopter. He was talking and joking with the physician.
Medical personnel at the concert said Tyler had "minor head and neck injuries and a shoulder injury," before he was flown to nearby hospital. It is still not publicly clear how serious his injuries are, however.
