South Yorkshire – In the United Kingdom there has been a lot of commotion after a number of female police officers have been walking around wearing burqas for a day in South Yorkshire.
The women wanted to see what it was like to be a female muslim. Deb Leonard, Helen Turner and Deb Pickering had been given the order to dress in the traditional Islamic garb for a day. In this manner the police want to create interaction with the muslim world. However, the stunt attracted a lot of criticism.
An irate local said: “The mind boggles. Have the police forgotten what their main task is? What are victims of crime to think when they see that the police have all the time in the world to play dress-up. It is a waste of their time and a waste of tax payers’ money.”
It is not the only action that is planned. A spokesperson for the police announced that the intention would be for the police to plan more activities with the different communities and minorities in order to strengthen the relationships, celebrate diversity and encourage people to integrate.
