A Minor League baseball player has been convicted of injuring a fan at a baseball game in which he threw a ball into the stands.
Julio Castillo, a baseball player for the Chicago Cubs minor league team the Peoria Chiefs, has been found guilty of felonious assault. Castillo may face a jail term for up to 8 years for his actions.
During a game against the Cincinnati Reds minor league team the Dayton Dragons, a fight broke out, and Castillo threw a baseball into the stands. The ball proceeded to hit a fan, giving him a concussion.
The fan who was injured, Chris McCarthy, said that when Castillo threw the ball in anger, it struck him in his temple.
Castillo claims that he did not throw the ball to hit anyone, but as a deterrent to players charging the field during the brawl.
