article imageOp-Ed: New Obama Poster Depicts President as The Joker

By Samantha A. Torrence     Aug 4, 2009 in Politics
A new poster plastered through out Los Angeles portrays Obama as The Joker. The poster has been identified as mean spirited and dangerous.
Why so serious Obama? Why so serious? Here, let's put a smile on your face!
A new poster in Los Angeles is certainly putting a smile on someone's face, but others see it as dangerous and in poor political taste. The poster depicts President Obama as The Joker, but not the cheesy Adam West era clown. Oh no, this Joker is the dark sociopath played by Heath Ledger in the most recent Batman movie The Dark Knight. Below the picture is displayed the word Socialism.
Many people are alarmed by this act of political protest which has popped up over night. So many are enthralled with trying to see racism, or violence in the picture that they are completely missing the point. Of course the art is not the liberalesque Elephant Dung on a Virgin Mary with a background of bare behinds. Therefore it may just go over the heads of those who don't actually have to look too deep for meaning in their art.
This political statement is being washed away by the adoring crowd of Obama as nothing more than poor loser syndrome, and the right wing blogs are quick to declare it "stupid," for lack of a better word, in an effort to distance themselves from the poster. The focus thus far has been on the obvious, for the left this is obviously racist, for the right this is obviously not a proper representation of the Joker. The Joker is a sociopath. He is a man with no conscience, no sense of morality, and a habermanic sense of humor. People see the joker and all the see is blood, gore, and jokes that would give you nightmares for life. However, they miss the conclusion, the main point of the entire Joker character in The Dark Knight, his need to impose his madness on the masses. Control through his own version of societal breakdown.
In the movie The Dark Knight, there was a method to the madness of Joker. He was intent upon bringing Chaos to the City of Gotham by pushing the rules and laws of society and turning upside down societal norms. His antagonism stemmed from a need for control, for everyone to see things as he did so they could be "free." He was affective in this action as Gotham City turned in on itself in an effort to be saved from the Joker by granting his will, at least until the very end. In the end humanity was shown in its great light when two groups of people pitted against one another refused to kill to save themselves.
The nature of the Joker is similar to that of Obama in the context of the word plastered on the poster, Socialism. To the observant Obama has been pushing for his belief system on a public that is all to willing to acquiesce in order to "save themselves." His need for control that far exceeds his station as POTUS has challenged the very founding of our nation and the American paradigm. Obama is communist, if not a sympathizer to the theory of Marx, and socialism is the connection between Capitalism and Communism.
The left wing element of America deny the word socialism as a definition of their political beliefs with the gnashing of teeth and the rolling of eyes, but in the end it is what it is.
1.Any of various theories or systems of social organization in which the means of producing and distributing goods is owned collectively or by a centralized government that often plans and controls the economy.
2.The stage in Marxist-Leninist theory intermediate between capitalism and communism, in which collective ownership of the economy under the dictatorship of the proletariat has not yet been successfully achieved
Now how does Karl Marx lay out a plan for a transition to Communism?
10 Conditions For Transition To Communism
Abolition of property in land and application of all rents of land to public purposes.
A heavy progressive or graduated income tax.
Abolition of all right of inheritance.
Confiscation of the property of all emigrants and rebels.
Centralisation of credit in the hands of the State, by means of a national bank with State capital and an exclusive monopoly.
Centralisation of the means of communication and transport in the hands of the State.
Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the State; the bringing into cultivation of waste-lands, and the improvement of the soil generally in accordance with a common plan.
Equal liability of all to labour. Establishment of industrial armies, especially for agriculture.
Combination of agriculture with manufacturing industries; gradual abolition of the distinction between town and country, by a more equal distribution of the population over the country.
Free education for all children in public schools. Abolition of children's factory labour in its present form. Combination of education with industrial production.
Now ask yourself these questions.
1. Which of these are already implemented in America?
2. Which of these is Obama actively working to implement?
3. Which of these are implemented that Obama is actively working to improve upon?
This revelation may be news to some, but Obama was quite clear of his agenda. His honesty during the Campaign was noble. It is the dishonesty of his followers, or maybe just their lack of comprehension, that is making it difficult for the American public to have an honest discourse about what America is, and if they want to see America as the Republic envisioned by the founders or a communistic state.
The artist may be trying to say something different but I see The Joker poster as meant to point out Obama's totalitarian leanings towards socialism, it is a wake up call to encourage people to access the information readily available to them about Obama's agenda. I hope my interpretation is right, but in the end until the artist reveals him or herself and explains his or her actions we will never know.
