A Sydney court heard today how a woman did not recognise her son or his voice as he fatally stabbed her husband and attacked her in the family home.
At first the son seemed perfectly normal when he came down for breakfast in the Baulkham Hills residence. The son is sixteen years of age.
Apparently, he changed radically after asking where the family cat was, the court was told.
The mother related how disturbing it was to see her son change after asking about Bella the cat. She said “It wasn’t him.”
She went to say: “His was very deep. It shocked me because it was really throaty and really, really deep and I couldn't understand how such a deep voice could come out of him. His facial features - they were quite tight and it didn't even look like his face.
He acted differently - it just wasn't him.''
As the woman looked out the window for the cat her son came towards her with a knife.
She told police officers: "He kept saying `the afterlife' and he kept attacking me and I was screaming.''
The father heard his wife screaming and was attacked as he ran down to stairs to help.
He died at the scene of multiple stab wounds. The son has pleaded not guilty to murder.
Police officers found numerous textbooks, drawings and musings on Satanism and the afterlife in the boy’s bedroom and his school bag.
The court is expecting to be informed that the boy suffers from schizophrenia and has been told that psychiatric examinations have revealed that he was delusional and had heard what he thought to be the devil's voice.
