Police in Dyfed-Powys, Wales, today launched a murder investigation after finding the body of a missing girl in a car they stopped by using a "stinger".
Childcare student, Chanelle Sasha Jones, 17, from Cardigan, had been reported missing hours earlier.
Police found her in a Ford Fiesta they had followed on a coastal road near Aberaeron, Ceredigion, west Wales. They then used a
stinger to halt the vehicle, causing it to crash into a parked camper van in a nearby layby. According to police the passengers in the van suffered only minor injuries.
The police have arrested a man in his forties in connection with the death of the teenager. He is being treated in hospital although, the extent of his injuries was not known.
Jayne, mother of Chanelle Sasha Jones, said her daughter had began turning things around after going through a lot in her life.
Jayne made this statement:
"My beautiful daughter Chanelle Sasha has been taken from us due to a cruel set of circumstances.
"She has been through so much in her short life and I was, and we all are, so proud of how she was turning her life around for the better and she now had so many ambitions."
And added:
"She was my lovely daughter who will be so sadly missed by her sister and two brothers and all her family and her boyfriend, Brian. We all love you and miss you, darling babe."
A postmortem is to be carried out.
On the road where the teenager was found a section has been closed while investigation by forensic experts continue.
The stinger has reportedly been taken away for tests.
Police are appealing for information from anyone who might have seen Chanelle Sasha Jones on Sunday between 0330 and 2215 and also for anyone who saw a beige Ford Fiesta, 2003 plate, on the Haverfordwest to St Clears road or in the Lampeter, Poppit Sands and Gwbert-on-Sea areas.
