As international support for the war in Afghanistan declines, a recent poll has shown that the majority of Britons want their troops out of the region.
In a new poll conducted by ComRes and commissioned by the Independent, most Britons feel that the war in Afghanistan is unwinnable and they want their military troops out of the region.
Fifty-eight per cent of telephone respondents said the offense against the Taliban is unwinnable and 52 per cent want the troops out of the country. The poll comes after 22 British troops were killed in action during the month of July. The final fatality tally thus far is 191 since the invasion of Afghanistan began in 2001.
The survey also included the military equipment needed for their soldiers. Seventy-eight per cent believe the troops lack the sufficient equipment needed to combat the Taliban. Further results show that 60 per cent of those polled do not believe more troops and resources should be added to the war and reconstruction efforts.
The telephone poll consisted of 1,008 respondents and was conducted between July 24 and 26.
