Three employees of the Toronto Transit Commission were charged with theft by Toronto police. One of those arrested is reported to have made more than $125,000 in 2008.
The TTC employees are alleged to have pocketed subway fares. Detectives that are working on the case are expecting to make more arrests.
Officers arrested a collector at the Queen Subway station on Tuesday. Two other arrests took place last week. One of those arrested for allegedly stealing subway fares earned over $125,000 last year.
The Globe and Mail reports:
“This individual asked, for example, for five tokens. One of the TTC [employees] gave him four tokens... and waved the person through. This person said, 'No, I’m supposed to put my token in the cash box,'” Detective Rob Ermacora said.
Toilane Fountain, 57, has been charged with theft under $5,000 and five charges of failing to collect fares. Anthony Alfano, 65, was charged with nine counts of failing to collect fares and theft under $5,000. Kiran Sachdeviran, 56, has been charged with four counts of failing to collect fares and theft under $5,000.
