A veteran firefighter in Asheville, North Carolina is suspected of shooting a man on Monday who was biking with his young son on a busy road.
According to the Asheville Police Department, an argument broke out between Charles Diez, a firefighter in Asheville, and a man biking with his young son. Diez was reportedly angered that the man was biking on such a busy road with his three-year-old son in a child seat connected to the bike.
Diez stopped his car to talk with the biker, but an argument ensued and he pulled out a gun, opened fire, hitting the biker in the helmet, according to police.
Incredibly, according to the Asheville Police Department, the bullet penetrated the outer layer of the helmet but barely missed the biker's head.
Diez has been charged with attempted first degree murder and his bail is set at $500,000.
Diez has been a firefighter in Asheville since 1992 and is now on paid investigative leave until the investigation is complete.
