A 17-year-old boy will be deported from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after serving a six-week prison term for shocking a racing camel in an attempt to boost it's performance.
The boy, known only as ASW, is a national of a neighboring country according to WAM. He confessed to the offense after he was caught earlier this month.
The boys act was in violation of Abu Dhabi's rules and regulations observed in camel racing events under the Federal law 15 for 2005.
On July 26, the Al Ain Court of Appeals upheld the court of first instances ruling to confiscate the camel and the shocking device. The court issued a reduced sentence given the defendant's age reports WAM Emirates News Agency.
"The verdict was in line with the country's drive to strictly enforce laws relating to animal cruelty", WAM, the state news agency reported.
