According to a news source, a shooting left one-woman dead, and two others wounded at a wedding reception held on Sunday.
Yesterday evening, an unknown gunman opened fire at a wedding reception held at a local
Winnipeg nightclub. A 50-year-old woman, Cheryl Robert died from the attack, while two other people were wounded.
“It’s getting to be like Compton out there,”
said a
source Sunday, comparing Winnipeg to the notorious crime ridden city in Los Angeles county.
Police believe the gunman had slipped in through the back door of the nightclub, which was left open to allow fresh air in. He then opened fire on about 100 guests that were attending the reception. Cheryl Robert was
shot in the head, and later died in hospital. Two others, one of which included Robert’s common-law husband were treated for wounds and then released.
Authorities said they don’t know if the suspect was at the wedding earlier, or if he was working alone, said Const. Jacqueline Chaput. Police say there is no evidence the violence was gang related. Although, one source had said that some of the guests attending the reception were members of a local gang called The Warriors-including a groomsman.
So far, no arrests have been made, and police are still investigating the incident.
