The Laurence Miller Gallery is showcasing iconic images of Woodstock, which celebrates its 40th anniversary on Aug. 12. Burk Uzzle's photos of the 1969 love-in will be on display until Aug. 20.
It's the photo that captured Woodstock in one frame. Two lovers huddle against each other, wrapped in a blanket amidst a sea of people camping on a hillside during Woodstock. It became the go-to image for the music festival of '69, winning the spot on the original "Woodstock" album in 1970, as well as on the movie poster.
The photo was snapped by Burk Uzzle, the preeminent photographer during the three-day fest. But it wasn't the only iconic image he took as a participant at Woodstock.
To honor the 40th anniversary of Woodstock, New York's Laurence Miller Gallery is displaying Uzzle's rarely seen photos from various vantage points of the historic event. As the Gallery's site explains:
Rather than document the music, Uzzle chose to focus on details of living, existence, and enjoyment over that three day period. In so doing, he captured the spirit of the festival and ultimately an era.

Around 25 vintage, modern and color prints from Woodstock, as it originally was promoted, will be shown at the Gallery. Some display nudity -- it was a hippie-filled fest, remember -- and others give a peak into the hustling mass of people rushing to watch the musicians and activists take the stage.
See below for some more of Uzzle's photos on display at the Laurence Miller Gallery:
