The announced September 12th WBC heavyweight championship bout between the Ukrainian Vitali Klitschko, the defending champion, and the Briton heavyweight contender David Haye that was planned to take place in Frankfurt, Germany, is called off.
The most exciting heavyweight contender today David Haye, 22-1, 20 KO's, a former undisputed world cruiserweight champion, will officially challenge the World Boxing Association heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev, 50-1, 34 KO's, on November 7 in Germany. Manager Kaller Sauerland of the German promotional company Sauerland Event that manage Nikolai Valuev has confirmed that the contracts have been signed and is sure Nikolay Valuev will be more than happy to put his title on the line against David Haye in a fight that is expected to fascinate boxing fans all over the world.
The Briton David Haye first pulled out of his fight against the IBF/WBO/IBO and Ring Magazine heavyweight titles holder Wladimir Klitschko, the young brother of Vitali Klitschko. The match was supposed to take place this past July 20 in Genselkirchen, Germany, but due an injury suffered by David Haye few days prior to that meeting, the fight was called off.
Reports were coming in that David Haye signed to fight Vitali Klitschko on September 7, which, according to different sources, David Haye denied. Instead, David Haye told sources that he is thrilled to announce that he dream of becoming world heavyweight champion will be realised on November 7, 2009, when he challenges the tallest and heaviest champion of all time, Nikolai Valuev.
Nikolai Valuev, however, is unimpressed by David Haye remarks. “It is not the first time that my opponents have said things like that,” he said. “Haye is a young man with a big mouth. Let him talk. It will be different in the ring. He will certainly not get my belt!”
The former undisputed cruiserweight champion David Haye made his debut in the heavyweight division on November 15, 2008, which he won via a fifth- round TKO over American Monte Barrett. The match took place in London, United Kingdom. “I can’t wait to step into the ring on November 7 and prove that size doesn’t matter. Mark my words: I will be the first man to knock Nikolai Valuev out,” stated David Haye.
Nikolai Valuev, however, is unimpressed by David Haye remarks. “It is not the first time that my opponents have said things like that,” he said. “Haye is a young man with a big mouth. Let him talk. It will be different in the ring. He will certainly not get my belt!”
The 7’0 Russian Nikolai Value is the first ever Russian professional boxer to win a world heavyweight title when, in 2005, he captured the WBA heavyweight title for the first time from 2-time heavyweight world champion John Ruiz via a 12-round majority decision.
Nicolay Valuev is coming off a 12-round majority decision over 5-time boxing world champion Evander Holyfield and his rematch against WBA champion in recess Chagaev taht was supposed to take place in Helsinki, Finland, was cancelled for the fact that Chagaev failed to fulfil the Finnish boxing federation’s medical requirements before that bout.
This match between Nikolai Valuev and David Haye is expected to take place in Germany at a location to be announced in the coming weeks.
