In a call asking for support on health care reform from liberal bloggers, President Obama admits that he is not familiar with a key provision of the bill he is pushing.
The health reform bill is a legal document that is more than 1,000 pages long, and by every measure requires a good amount of time to go through and digest. The health care reform legislation is massive in scope and in impact, so it seems logical that the executive and legislative branches should take the time to read it.
President Obama admitted that he was "not familiar" with a key provision in the document, one that governs whether or not the public can keep their existing insurance.
In a call with liberal bloggers on Tuesday, seeking their editorial support for the bill, a blogger asked a question about an article in Investor's Business Daily.
According to The Examiner, "He asked: 'Is this true? Will people be able to keep their insurance and will insurers be able to write new policies even though H.R. 3200 is passed?' Obama replied: “You know, I have to say that I am not familiar with the provision you are talking about.”
President Obama is scheduled to go on prime time television this week to promote this bill. Many legislators have been asking for more time to better understand the bill itself - but the president has been adamant about passing it before the August recess.
