Freddie Roach shares his thoughts on Amir Khan as a developing fighter and how he is adjusting to the higher weight class of 140 pounds. He also talks about Khan in relation to other fighters like Pacquiao and Mayweather.
"Amir has trouble making 135 pounds. He is dehydrating himself. He is making himself weak. The 140 pound division is natural for him. He has three meals yesterday. He has breakfast in the morning before the weight in. So he is healthy and strong. He will be more resilient. He could take a better shot and he will be stronger." said Roach in an
interview with Steve Bunce.
Steve Bunce also asked Freddie where would Amir be in relation to A plus fighters like Pacquiao and Mayweather.
"He can reach the level of Pacquiao. But he is still young. He needs to grow a little bit and be more mature. I think he will develop into a good fighter. I think he will be an A plus fighter. "answered Freddie, who is confident the Khan will emerge victorious in his world title fight against Kotelnik."
Freddie was also asked what has Khan learned from sparring with Pacquiao.
"He knows who the best pound for pound fighter in the gym. They have a go at it. I only used Pacquiao for four rounds because he takes over after four. He is too much for Amir after that. Then other sparring partners come in."
SkySports also asked Roach about his views on Khan's opponent .
"He is a defensive fighter. He is a slow fighter. He starts slow because he wants to wear his opponents out. I think Amir is ready for this fight. We know how to beat him.I can't see Amir losing."
Freddie Roach basically wants Amir to be his 25th champion. If Amir doesn't win tomorrow, then he is going to spend some time in boxing wilderness. The junior welterweight division is loaded with great boxers and puncher.
If Khan gets stopped by Andreas, who is not known to be a heavy puncher, then the Bolton boxer have to sit down and think about his future.
