article imagePresident Yudhoyono: Jakarta hotel bombings an act of terrorism

By Radi Anky Juremi     Jul 17, 2009 in World
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono vowed that he would arrest the terrorists and masterminds who are responsible for the twin attacks on the JW Marriott and Ritz Carlton hotels in Jakarta. The attacks killed nine people and wounded 50.
"I ask the law enforcement to arrest the terrorists, whatever their status and political background," said President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) to the Press at the State Palace in Jakarta on Friday.
"I condemn this bombing incident and I am certain it was done by a small number of people who do not care about the country's image and future," he said.
He added that he was certain the perpetrators would be caught and punished.
SBY also said those who carried out the attack and those who ordered the attacks, including the masterminds behind it, will be arrested and tried.
SBY admitted there are several intelligence reports, and said there will be a revolution if he won the 2009 presidential election.
"There will be a revolution if SBY win. There are statements that if SBY win, then Indonesia will be like Iran. There is a threat, that in any way SBY should not and cannot be the President," said SBY.
Moreover, the President also showed photos he had received from national intelligence sources that appeared to show militants targeting photos of him.
The President had earlier planned to visit the location immediately, but then decided to monitor the situation from the Palace because security officers were still sweeping the area.
