Mayweather Jr. stated in a recent conference call that Pacquiao didn't call him out. A closer look at the boxing news archive the last three months reveals that Floyd Jr. might be suffering from a condition known as " Selective Hearing".
"He's never said he wants to fight me" said Floyd Junior, who believes that this is one reason why he is not fighting the Filipino boxing superstar.
"If Manny really does want to fight me, all he's got do to is say it. We can pay Marquez to step aside, we can pay him $1 million. Are you ready? Let me know". added the flamboyant, undefeated boxer.
But Pacquiao did express his interest in fighting Money May. In a Grand Rapid Press article written by Brian VanOchten in the middle of April 2009, Pacquiao said the following statements:
"I think (Mayweather) is going to fight again. He's not really retired," Pacquiao told MDS at FanHouse recently. "For me, if I'm Floyd, I would fight a tune-up and then fight me. That's for me, but I don't know what his plan is. He might want to fight me right away."
These words were uttered by Pacquiao when he was preparing for for a fight with Ricky Hatton. I guess Mayweather Jr. didn't hear Pacquiao mentioned his name or choose not to listen to it.
He didn't even wait for the winner of the Hatton-Pacquiao fight. Instead, he tried to steal the spotlight by announcing his comeback fight with Marquez on the day Manny and Ricky are fighting.
Mayweather knows that he wouldn't have much bargaining power during negotiations if he were to fight Pacquiao immediately. A victory over Marquez would increase his negotiating leverage when a fight with Manny is in the work in the future.
