In a truly odd turn of avocation, a retired male factory worker in China has assumed an unexpected new role as a self-taught ballerina. His passion for dancing truly keeps him on his toes. Read on for more details.
According to news sources, Tu Fei, aged 62, is no ordinary retired factory worker. In fact, those closest to him are amazed at his new avocation, which is playing the part of the swan in Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake. He loves his new pastime and claims he will do it until the day he dies (and perhaps even after, if he has his way).
Tu Fei, who can be seen doing his thing at the link cited above, began teaching himself ballet some twelve years ago using books and television shows as study guides. For most of his working life, he was employed in a heavy machinery factory in Wuhan, Hubei province. All those years he never dreamed he would become a ballerina who dances at private functions such as weddings and various business events.
Tu Fei said of his passion:
“When performing, if I wear a mask, the audience would think I am a professional female dancer, although my shape is a bit chubby. Dancing is my life now. I'll dance Swan Lake until my dying day.”
Well, touché, Tu Fei in your tou-tou, and here’s to many more performances.
We should all do what we love, no matter how we may look to others.
