article imageBerlin Brothel Goes Green: Recycling, Bicycling and Sin

By M Dee Dubroff     Jul 14, 2009 in Lifestyle
We all know about the importance of going green, but now red, as in “red light district” is joining the ecologically sound and politically correct rainbow.
According to news sources, a Berlin brothel has come up with a novel way to promote business while at the same time showing concern for both the global economic crisis and the need to recycle and consider “green alternatives.” By offering a $7 discount to the usual $100 fee to all patrons who arrive at the brothel on bicycles, management is hoping to target a new group of customers who are concerned about the environment!
Thomas Goetz, owner of the “Maison d’envie” had this to say:
“The recession has hit our industry hard. Obviously, we hope that the discount will attract more people. It’s good for business, it’s good for the environment and it’s good for the girls. We have around 3-5 new customers coming in daily to take advantage of the discount."
The oldest profession in the world is legal in Germany and 400,000 prostitutes have formally registered since 2002. For all customers who arrive on bicycles or who can prove they took public transportation a discount is available for a 45-minute session. The offer is working and everyone appears to be very happy about it.
Goetz is very proud of the fact his business improvement plan has also alleviated traffic and parking congestion in the neighborhood.
Perhaps a Citizen of the Year award is in the works?
