Greek police have raided an illegal immigrants’ camp and levelled it with bulldozers at the port city of Patras, report Reuters.
The head of police, Thanassis Davlouros, is quoted as saying, "We moved about 110 immigrants to Patras hotels and other camps in Athens and 40 minors to a special centre in northern Greece. The immigrants were mainly Afghans”.
During the raid fire broke and burned the camp down leading to the arrest of two immigrants for arson.
Earlier this month the Greek government had announced tougher measures against illegal immigration saying it arrested 47,000 illegal immigrants who had come from Turkey last year.
Most illegal immigrants in Patras come from Asia on their way to other European countries, say the Reuters report.
