The Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center in Topeka, Kansas is the scene of a hostage situation. The main building was stormed by a gunman Sunday afternoon.
There have been no reports by the police of shots fired or injuries in the hostage situation.
A SWAT Team and hostage negotiators are on route to the hospital. There is at least one ambulance on standby at the scene.
The Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center was built in 1942 as an Army hospital. It has a staff of 1,100 and 445 beds.
The hospital provides medical, surgical, and psychiatric treatment services for veterans.
