Spain's Pamplona's 'San Fermin' fiesta has claimed the life of a man in the second of it's bull running events. It is the first fatality since 2003. A further three people have suffered injuries and are in hospital.
Organizers of the festival say that the unidentified man was gored in the neck and lung during the run on Friday. It is reported that it was messy and dangerous because of a rogue bull that separated from the pack according to
AP.
In 2007, a man from Hermosa Beach was seriously gored in the buttocks and his brother was gored in the leg by the same bull in the annual run in Pamplona.
When one bull separates from the pack it is the most dangerous thing that can happen.
The event was made famous by Ernest Hemingway's novel 'The Sun Also Rises.' which explores the lives of a group of expatriate Americans in the 1920's, on their pilgrimage to Pamplona, for the annual fiesta and bull fights.
Hundreds of runners from around the world participate in the 7-day fiesta which often involves all night drinking and celebrating before the early morning run through the streets in front of bulls rushing to the bull ring.
