A government report set to be released today, detail major security lapses at federal buildings across the country. Undercover investigators were able to smuggle in bomb making parts into 10 buildings.
The federal buildings in question were located in four different U.S. cities. Offices within the different buildings house federal lawmakers and agencies associated with the Departments of Justice and State. The investigators were able to put the bombs together in bathrooms and walk around and into offices with the device in their briefcases.
The Government Accountability Office was the primary investigating agency in this case. There was also instances of a guard sleeping on duty, a baby going through an X-ray machine without anyone noticing, and another guard using government computers to manage an adult website.
Senator Joe Lieberman (I-CT), the Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee,
said the report findings were "simply unacceptable."
The buildings that were tested were labeled "Level IV" buildings, indicating that they have high amounts of public traffic and at least 450 federal employees. Testimony in front of the Homeland Security Committee is expected to yield further information about security definciencies.
