article imageIran promises 'real and decisive' action against Israeli attack

By Michael Krebs     Jul 6, 2009 in World
The war of words heats up on Monday, following comments by U.S. Vice President Joe Biden that appeared to give Israel a green light on attacking Iran. Iranian leadership says the country is ready for an Israeli attack.
War in the Middle East came another step closer on Monday, as Iran said it was ready for an attack by Israel. The commentary by the Iranian leadership followed remarks by U.S. Vice President Joe Biden where Mr. Biden appeared to be giving Israel a green light to attack Iran's nuclear facilities.
"Iran is ready to take 'real and decisive' action if Israel attacks its nuclear facilities, a senior Iranian parliamentary official said Monday, according to the Associated Press.
The remarks were made by Alaeddin Broujerdi, the head of Iran's parliamentary committee on national security and foreign policy.
"Both the U.S. and Israel are aware of the consequence of an erroneous decision," Broujerdi told reporters at the Iranian Embassy in Tokyo, AP reported.
Israel sees the development of nuclear weapons as an existential issue and one that they cannot tolerate. However, Iran contends that its nuclear development is for peaceful means and has refused numerous overtures to stop its nuclear program. The most likely outcome is a war between Israel and Iran.
"I believe our response will be real and decisive," Broujerdi said, according to AP.
