article imageOp-Ed: Will Britain's 'Green Police' Soon Be Coming To America?

By Johnny Simpson     Jul 6, 2009 in Politics
In the UK, armies of green-jacketed Carbon Police are hitting the streets, many operating in secret. Private homes are scanned for thermal violations. Is this what is coming to the US? Armies of green jackboots intruding into every corner of our lives?
From the UK Times Online's "Environmental Agency Sets Up Green Police":
Decked out in green jackets, the enforcers will be able to demand access to company property, view power meters, call up electricity and gas bills and examine carbon-trading records for an estimated 6,000 British businesses.
In addition, UK authorities are now using UAVs to scan private homes for 'thermal violations' without the owner's knowledge or consent. But that isn't the only secrecy involved regarding Britain's new environmental jackboots:
The central unit, based in Warrington, Cheshire, can call on the agency’s national network of hundreds of pollution inspectors, many of whom will soon be trained in CO2 monitoring. It will also be able to demand energy bills from utilities without the companies under investigation knowing they are being watched.
Perhaps most worrying, for managers will be the publication of an annual league table ranking companies by performance in cutting emissions. The government hopes the potential shame of a lowly placing will drive organizations to greater energy efficiency.
You got all that? The UK government, through their Green Gestapo, can scan private homes, monitor businesses and obtain records on a warrantless basis in hopes of shaming people and businesses into compliance. But then again, the entire Global Warming aka Climate Change movement, led by Al Gore and the UN's IPCC, has been trying to clobber and shame us into submission the whole time they've been pushing their fraudulent junk science political power-grabbing and Ponzi scheme GW swindle on us.
In what other scientific field are skeptics derided as heretics on the order of Holocaust deniers? Or barred from testifying before Congress, like Lord Christopher Monckton was the day before he was scheduled to appear, even as Al Gore was welcomed with open arms and no tough questions by Liberal Democrats? Or the dissenting petition by over 31,000 scientists, as well as an independent EPA study, completely discarded, ignored or buried as Inconvenient Truths?
But perhaps what is happening in Britain is a sign of things to come in America if Waxman-Markey passes in the Senate. How many of those new 'green jobs' President Obama raves about will be armies of Cotton Mather-like green-outfitted environmental jackboots, spying on every erg of energy Americans consume?
Will they be allowed to enter our homes for 'environmental surveys' without warrants, in direct violation of the Fourth Amendment? Will they be allowed, like the British are now, to scan our homes for thermal violations without our knowledge or consent, and ticketing us for it? Will they even go so far as to start measuring and enforcing personal food consumption and emissions, as a British study recommended in late April?
At what point will this intrusive political and regulatory insanity end? Remote control of thermostats in private homes by government bureaucrats? Don't bet on it. We have a choice, people. We can either scream to our Senate representatives to scrap Waxman-Markey once and for all, or we can get used to the same environmental Gestapo now hitting the streets in Britain, with extraordinary powers even the regular police don't have.
Of course, with the price of energy due to skyrocket in the US under Waxman-Markey (Obama's words, not mine), who'll be able to afford to violate energy usage guidelines, except Al Gore and the rabid green crowd jetsetting all over the planet, leaving carbon footprints the size of Texas everywhere they go?
I have long spoken out against this blatantly political power and money grab that is perhaps the boldest con in history. The refusal to debate. The Torquemada-like demonization of opponents. Notice how the name of this scam changed from Global Warming to Climate Change because of plummeting temperatures worldwide? Now any change in climate, which we normally call weather, can be attributed to Climate Change. Can't lose with that argument if you're a fire-eyed GW demagogue like Gore or Hansen, can you?
Now, I believe in sensible energy conservation and proper custodial care of the environment. But the shoddy and politically-motivated junk science of Global Warming (I mean Climate Change) embodied in the 1300-page Waxaman-Markey bill, which nobody in the House read, and is now hanging like a regulatory and economic Sword of Damocles in the Senate, is on the order of saving the patient by killing it.
Here is the contact page for the US Senate. If you feel comfortable with skyrocketing energy costs, government intrusion into every corner of your life, and armies of jackbooted Green Police hitting the streets and homes of America, then by all means tell your Senator that's what you want.
If, however, you prefer sensible approaches to energy conservation that don't involve an environmental Gestapo, and energy bills no one but the elite greenest of greens like Al Gore and Leonardo DiCaprio can afford, then please, by all means contact your Senators and tell them to scrap Waxman-Markey.
And for all of you Global Warming/Climate Change True Believers who wish to attack me for offending your religion, you can all go take a flying leap off of Al Gore's 'green' 100 gallons-per-mile riverboat into the Mississippi. I will not be burned at the Global Warming stake quietly. I'm sorry. I meant Climate Change.

UPDATE: Michelle Malkin has just posted a nearly identical piece on this same subject, with lots of background and contact info for US Senators, who will be starting hearings on Waxman-Markey this Tuesday, July 7th.
