Former Mayor of Washington D.C., Marion Barry, was arrested yesterday for allegedly stalking a woman in Anacostia Park by the U.S. Park Police.
Barry, who is currently serving on the Washington D.C. City Council, was taken into custody around 8:45 p.m. and charged with misdemeanor stalking. He was processed and released shortly thereafter.
The former Democratic mayor of the nation's capital has had several other run in's with the law. In 1990, he was apprehended in a federal sting operation where he was caught on surveillance tapes smoking crack cocaine in a D.C. motel room with a prostitute. In 2002, Barry was arrested again when small amounts of marijuana and cocaine were found in his car, but no charges were ever filed. He also has been on probation since 2005 for not filing income taxes for several years.
Barry made a political resurrection when he claimed his job back as mayor in 1994. After serving that term out, he was elected to the city council in 2004.
