The game was long and it was close. But in the end the powerful duo of Daniel Nester and Nenad Zimonjic was just too much for Bob and Mike Bryan.
Nestor, the Toronto native and Zimonjic, of Serbia, beat the American Bryan twins in four sets, 7-6(7), 6-7(3), 7-6(3), 6-3.
With their family's looking on, Nestor and Zimonjic didn't disappoint. They won their second Wimbledon title in as many years.
Nestor has had an illustrious doubles career, but was quick to
share the spotlight, saying that "Nenad is one of the best doubles players on grass. I'm fortunate to be playing with him."
The 36-year old Nestor has now won six majors, 61 doubles titles and career prize earnings inching close to $8 million US. With Zimonjic, the duo has six titles this year, more than any other doubles team.
Zimonjic also wanted to
share praise for the victory. "It's just huge to play in front of a crowd like this," ge said. "I was surrounded by great champions starting with my partner as well as the Bryans."
This is only the second season that Zimonjic and Nestor are playing together. They began playing together after Nestor split with longtime doubles teammate Mark Knowles.
