HAWAII, U.S. – An anti-shark tour movement is, slowly but surely igniting momentum in Hawaii. It started last March when residents noticed a large steel cage -- the ones that are used in shark shows.
Shark tours are common in Hawaii, most notably in Oahu's North Shore wherein the show highlights women who jump off the waters, inside a cage, tussling and playing with vicious, blood-thirsty sharks.
Although the experience in going eye-to-eye with sharks is absolutely exhilarating, activist and animal welfare society are unanimously calling for the
stoppage of shark tours.
Environmentalists are expressing their concern with regards to shark fatalities, cruelties and environmental hazards.
Native Hawaiians also think differently as to shark tours. Sharks had been a part of Hawaiian folklore and there are also others who deemed sharks as their ancestral god, thus they believed that feeding and playing with sharks is somewhat disrespecting their culture.
