WASHINGTON, U.S. – As a result of the sudden and tension-filled military coup that ousted President Manuel Zelaya.
The Organization of of American States (OAS) is now considering temporary suspension on Honduras' membership in the organization.
Last week, despite the threats of
isolation imposed by foreign countries France, Spain, Italy, Chile, Colombia as well as the United States and other North American countries. Acting President Roberto Micheletti appears to be hopeful that the international community, upon deliberation will honor his legitimate government.
However, before Saturday's session. The delegates from Honduras' interim government backed out.
According to OAS assistant secretary-general, Albert Ramdin, Zelaya plans to attend the meeting. He also added that the OAS does not recognize Honduras' interim government thus, they can't withdraw from the OAS.
Zelaya, who has been put into exile by the military as a result of his moves in pushing constitutional reforms, is still considered by the OAS as the legitimate president of Honduras.
As a matter of fact, the OAS meeting on Saturday is call for Zelaya to be reinstated back in power.
