London firefighters are concerned that up to thirty people could be trapped in the upper floors of a building on fire in London, according to a London Fire Brigade spokesperson. Two children are said to have been found dead at this time.
More than 100 firemen are said to be at the scene, as well as numerous ambulances.
The tower, situated in Camberwell in the south of the city, is on fire and firemen are progressing amongst the debris.
Fire initially broke out on the fourth floor and eventually reached the eleventh floor, with authorities worried about the people living above the fire level.
“We are searching the building” said the spokesperson, according to
French press reports.
Emergency services were called to Lakanal House in Havil Street, Camberwell at 4.20pm.
An aerial ladder platform is also present.
Rescue work is said to have been extremely difficult and is said to be ongoing, with firemen equipped with extended breathing apparatus trying to reach the upper floores of the building.
Two children are said to have been found dead at this time according to
other reports.
Ten people are said to have been hospitalised for smoke inhalation and three others for more serious conditions.
Witnesses reported seeing large quantities of smoke and flames coming out of the tower.
