The U.S. Military says a solider was captured in Eastern Afghanistan Thursday. This comes as the military is launching a major operation against the Taliban in the country.
The solider has been missing since Tuesday, according to Capt. Elizabeth Mathias.
"We are using all of our resources to find him and provide for his safe return," Mathias said,
as quoted by NBC News.
It's not clear where exactly or how the solider went missing. An official with the Afghan police department says he went missing in the in the Mullakheil area of the eastern Paktika province.
The solider's identity is not being released to protect his well-being. His family has, however, been notified of the situation.
As many as 4,600 U.S. Marines and Afghan forces are
working to round up and end violence in the Eastern part of the country in a major offensive.
This is the first major offensive since President Obama took office.
