KISS bassist and reality television star Gene Simmons, never one to shy away from his opinion, has spoken out against American Idol finalist Adam Lambert, claiming that he has "killed his career" because of the focus on his coming out as a homosexual.
In an interview with AOL.com, as reported by Australian gay and lesbian news website SameSame, the musician openly admitted that whilst Lambert was the "best talent American Idol has had", his career was all but "done" because of the over-emphasis of his sexual preference.
"You’re forcing people to deal with issues they may not be interested in", Simmons explained. "Life is unfair, and the masses don’t all live in L.A. They live in Wisconsin and Nebraska, and you’re on crack if you think the same rules apply there".
Despite his cynical stance on Lambert's very public out-ing, the KISS musician maintains that he wishes all the best for the Idol star's future.
"My advice is still the same - shut the fuck up, just sing and let people say whatever they want", he states. "But I do wish him the best because he’s got all the talent in the world".
"I hope he becomes the next Beatles and proves me wrong".
The questions surrounding Lambert came from Simmons' comments in an interview with Philadelphia FOX News two weeks earlier.
“We, America, the rest of the world, really don’t care. I mean, if the story becomes ‘I prefer farm animals too,’ you know, who cares? Be quiet about what it is you do indoors and go out there and sing.”
Lambert himself is yet to comment on the situation.
