Avon faces lawsuit

By Wang Fangqing     Jun 30, 2009 in Business
A 30-year-old mother in Bronx filed a lawsuit against the New-York based cosmetics manufacturer Avon Products Inc. as her belly skin got burned by Avon's product "Stretch Mark Smoother".
The woman, Milka Betances, a Dominican immigrant, bought the Avon cream last year, and when she put it on her then toned stomach, she felt immediate pain, and she had to seek hospital treatment since the pain is intolerant, according to her lawsuit.
Avon's Anew Clinical Professional Stretch Mark Smoother, priced at US$25 each, is a popular product among young mothers who seek to erase the stretch marks caused by pregnancy. On Avon's website, it got a five-star overall rate.
But to Betances, not only it didn't erase any mark, but also added ugly scars to her belly. Her attorney Andrew Friedman insists that the renowned beauty company should take the responsibility.
