Mozilla released today the latest version of its latest open source Internet browser, Firefox. According to developers, Firefox 3.5 is faster, more adapted and more secure.
Firefox has long been the favorite browser fore more knowledgeable web browsers, as compared to the more common and troublesome Internet Explorer.
Mozilla is promoting Firefox 2.5 has faster, ahead of its time and more private than previous versions. According to release notes, this updates features "many changes over the previous version."
Faster
Firefox 3.5 features a new JavaScript engine which is twice as fast as Firefox 3 when it comes to rendering JavaScript and 10 times faster than Firefox 2.
The platform runs on the TraceMonkey engine, which is built on Mozilla's original platform, SpiderMonkey, according to the New York Times Gadgetwise.
Ahead of its time
Mozilla boasts Firefox 3.5's ability to render HTML5's video and audio tags. HTML5, however, is rarely used in current web design but should, in time, become the standard.
The developers also lists several other new features which are rarely used, or are in testing stages, across the World Wide Web.
Firefox 3.5 also will now play built in audio and video without the use of plugins.
More secure
The new browser also features several new privacy and security features.
It allows users to enter "private-browsing" mode which will prevent the storage of any browsing history, cookies, media or files.
Also new is the location aware browsing which will automatically notify trusted websites of your location when asked and allows the user to prevent location sharing.
