Mythbuster Adam Savage has spent a whopping $11,000 on mobile Internet usage, and claims he wasn't warned at any stage he had spent so much.
Savage, who began posting tweets of outrage on his
Twitter profile overnight, claims there is no way he could have spent so much money, and says he would never have downloaded 9 gigabytes of data which AT&T claim he has done.
They're claiming I uploaded/downloaded 9 million kilobytes (9 gigs) while in Canada. Frakking impossible.
he said on his Twitter profile.
And I got the "data is charged at .015 cents, or a penny and a half, per kb". About to try to explain the difference to them. Sigh.
Early reports said Savage had used an iPhone to download the 9 gigabytes of data, but later he announced it was in fact the AT&T USB Connect Mercury modem. AT&T temporarily disconnected his mobile phone, saying he had to pay the money before they would reconnect him.
Not long after, AT&T customer service apparently contacted Savage, and both parties have now resolved the issue with Savage thanking his followers for their support of the issue, as well as acknowledging the fact that issues like these shouldn't have to be resolved by people with over 50,000 Twitter followers.
I agree with everyone: it shouldn't just work for me. The data carriers MUST stop thinking in kilobytes and start thinking in customers.
