Two Orlando Men Find $40,000 in a Box

Two men found $40,000 in an Orlando Toyota car dealership in a box the size of a shoebox but they did not keep it. Rather, they reported it to the sheriff's office.

A mysterious box filled with $40,000 was found in an Orlando Toyota car dealership Tuesday. After the two employees who found the box reported the money, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office is looking for the owner to claim his or her money. When the box was found by the two men, they did not open the box because they were expecting the person to come back and pick it up. However, after curiosity perceived them, they opened the shoebox to find $40,000. The general manager James Farrell of the car dealership was quoted saying that he was proud that his two employees reported the lost money and “People rank us [car dealerships] up there with going to get their teeth cleaned or going to talk to a lawyer. You've got good people and bad people in any profession, but I'm glad we've got a couple people here who do the right thing.” Right now, the money is sitting in the evidence room at the Orange County Sheriff’s department. Deputies in charge are befuddled at how someone can carry that large sum of money around and also leave it behind at the same time however; the officers are looking at surveillance cameras to get an identification of the person. Spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff’s office told the Orlando Sentinel, “You know though, in some cultures people don't trust banks, or it's more common for people to carry around large amounts of cash. But if you left your life savings at a car dealership, you would think they'd realize that and make an effort to come forward.”
