The results are in. After a $60.6-million opening night, Michael Bay's "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" is a huge hit at the box office.
The previous box office champion was
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, grossing $44.2 million when it opened in 2007.
It's safe to say director Michael Bay may have outdone himself this time around.
The movie's success is also sailing overseas; the film opened early over the weekend grossing $19.6 million from 833 runs to top the international box office chart for the weekend.
In Britain, the film grossed more than $14 million from 517 locations to come within 3 per cent of the opening of
The Dark Knight.
However,
Transformers' sequel outbid the first
Transformers by 71 per cent and
Spider Man by 18 per cent.
The sequel is breaking box office records everywhere, and estimates indicate the film will gross between $150 million and $170 million nationally, over its first five-day run.
