By Leo Reyes     Jun 25, 2009 in Sports
With the reported agreement on the catch weight issue of the much awaited Pacquiao-Cotto match, it appeared that the fight will most likely happen in New York or Las Vegas, Nevada before the end of this year.
A Pacquaio-Cotto match appeared certain with Cotto’s claim that he and Manny Pacquiao have already agreed on the weight issue which he said was 145.
This leaves the issue of purse sharing still to be resolved. Like Shane Mosley, Cotto is willing to take a smaller share just to be assured of a crack the Filipino boxing superstar.
Earlier, the camp of Pacquaio and his lawyer have floated a figure of 65-35 in favor of the pound-for-pound king while Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach wants a 70-30 purse sharing in favor of Pacquiao.
Another issue still to be resolved is the fight venue. Earlier, Arum wants the fight held at the Madison Square garden as he targets a sizable number of Puerto Ricans in New York in addition to the boxing fans coming in from Puerto Rico. However reports indicate that the promoter is still considering MGM Grand in Las Vegas Nevada, reports:
Cotto claimed that they (him and Pacquiao) had both agreed that the catch weight will be 145 lbs. and is keenly awaiting for the confirmation of the scheduled 12-rounder that will put Cotto's World Boxing Organization welterweight crown on the line.
Cotto plans to set up training camp for the Pacquiao fight in Tampa, Florida.
In the meantime Pacquiao is busy trying to make peace with the rebels in Mindanao after his province was attacked by separatist elements. Pacquiao was recently appointed by the president of the Philippines as its Ambassador for Peace in Mindanao.
