Bramble is an orphaned baby Eagle Owl who found an unlikely friend in Sophie the Springer Spaniel. They both reside at a bird of prey rescue center in Cornwall, England where not only politics but also animals make strange bed-fellows. Read on and…smile
Bramble and Sophie are an unlikely pair, but don’t tell them that. According to
news sources, they are as inseparable as any new mother and child, and Sophie gives Bramble a daily wash by licking her clean. They are so attached to each other that Bramble flies to Sophie so that she can clean her up before she can face the daily scrutiny of her adoring public.
In the words of Sharon Bindon who runs the rescue center:
“When Bramble arrived, she had no feathers and had to be kept in the house. On her first day Sophie cleaned her as they sat on the settee. Every day since, Bramble has had to be let out of her cage to be washed. She has the cleanest beak and feathers in the country.”

Sophie, a three-year-old Springer Spaniel who lives with her owner at the bird rescue center was immediately drawn to the rescued baby owl and began licking him clean. That was their beginning and there is no end in sight. Today Bramble is an adult owl and lives in the aviary outside Bindon’s (and Sophie’s) home and every morning he flaps his wings, which in bird talk means, “let me out, please.” He immediately flies to his adopted mom, Sophie, for his daily bath, which he lovingly gets.
After all, what are friends for?
